Buying Used Equipment

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Honestly, I used to be a sucker for nothing but brand new equipment. But as I entered full time into production world, I realized brand new may not be the smartest thing after all. Earlier this year, I came across DVXUser.com where DVX and HVX users from all over the world talk about their favorite camera. It also has sections on other cameras, editing suites and much more.

But what caught my eye was it’s marketplace section. Long story short, I ended up selling my Mac Book Pro and HVX 200 not more than a month ago. In return I was able to buy used Canon XH A1, Steadicam Merlin and Brevis35. Although, there are Macs that come and go for sale, I couldn’t find anything to replace my Mac Book Pro. So I turned to Craigslist and Ebay and what a deal I got. I ended up buying a brand new Apple Mac Book Pro 15 inch older model and used Mac Pro 2.66 ghz for a great price.

I guess what I am trying to say is save money and get used equipment. But please make sure you test everything out. I got lucky so far but I am sure a time will come where I might get burned but that’s a chance I am willing to take to save some bucks
